Navigating Calf Nutrition, Protocol Development & Positive Workplace Culture

On Demand

This well-rounded CE will be valuable to veterinarians working on any size dairy farm. The instructors will break down starter calf nutrition, explore preventative measures for calves and heifers, and discuss protocol development. In addition, participants will receive tips for helping clients train and interact with bilingual employees and build a positive on-farm employee culture.

During the on-demand presentations, instructors Jorge Delgado, Luke Miller, DVM and Ellan Dufour, MS will present the following topics:

Hour 1  - Employee Motivation: WHY
Jorge Delgado

The WHY behind actions brings meaning and value to even small chores on a dairy. The way employees are trained and interacted with can change the perspective of the entire staff. Jorge Delgado works with farms across the country developing personalized bilingual employee training programs from the calving pen to the parlor. This presentation will provide practical insight to training and interaction of bilingual employees and building a positive employee culture on farm.

Hour 2 - The Tools and the Talent For Calfhood Success
Luke Miller, DVM

Dairy heifers represent the future of the dairy herd. The care and growth during this stage is critical in advancing the future of the herd. Dr. Luke Miller's expertise extends to every level of a dairy operation, with years of experience developing protocols and standard operating procedures. This presentation will explore preventive measures for calves and heifers, protocol development and complement Jorge Delgado’s presentation on employee development.

Hour 3 - Breaking Down Calf Starter Nutrition
Ellan Dufour, MS

Calf starter nutrition is complex and a key component to raising healthy calves in order to ensure lifetime performance and productivity by the animal. By discussing each component of calf starter nutrition individually, we can then bring the pieces together for a better understanding on what calves need to in order to thrive and perform.
